Anna Maxted left Cambridge University with a degree in English, and began as a reporter for the Jewish Chronicle. She later freelanced for the Sunday Mirror, the Daily Mirror, Independent on Sunday, FHM (where she wrote a sex advice column), and Cosmopolitan. Following the death of her father after a devastating stroke, Anna wrote a piece about her grief. It received an overwhelming response and Anna was approached by agents and publishers to write a novel.Anna now lives in London with her husband, Phil, and their two cats, Disco and Tasha. she has written two lighthearted self-help books on sex and seduction called How to Have Him Begging for More: 100 Ways to Drive Your Man Wild in Bed and How to Seduce Your Dream Man: 100 Strategies Bring Mr. Right to Heels. Her first novel, Getting Over It, was published in June 2000, with Running In Heels, following in May 2001. Anna's Books: Getting Over itHelen's father dies and in the aftermath she finds her whole life falling apart - from her relationships with everybody from her men to her mother to her friends and even her cat. It's a book that is alternatively funny and sad in all the right places. Reader's comments: I read so much chicklit that most of it gets given away to my friends after I've finished with it. This, however, is a keeper. 9/10 Running In Heels Natalie is a ballet PR. When her best friend, firefighter Barbara gets married, she fears being left behind. We see a girl in a mess, with a huge chip on her shoulder and a life that's falling apart. Reader's comments: Getting Over It is a hard act to follow. At first this book seems predictable - boyfriends, ballet and parties, but it soon reveals a deeper core of self image and annorexia. That's the beauty of Anna's books - she can deal with "issues" without anyone even noticing. 9/10 Behaving Like AdultsRape is a very non-chicklit word but Anna doesn't shy away from exploring this theme in her latest novel. Holly is the owner of a successful dating agency, Girl meets Boy, but she meets more than she bargained for when sh hald uses client Stuart in an attempt to show ex-boyfriend Nick that their relationship really is over. Reader's comments: Excellent once again. Although Anna's heroines are all frightenly similar they still strike a very strong chord. 9/10 Reviews Recently we have been reviewing and changing our review process.
